About our Research

Engineering and Social Sciences are the major areas of research at University West. There are also some research in the fields of the Humanities and Nursing and Health Sciences. The research is mainly focused on producing results that could be of practical use and much of it is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding community. The research is in addition meant to strengthen the educations at University West.

There has only been research at University West during a little more than 15 years, but the growth has been rapid. Regional financial support from the EU was important in the initial phase. Today the researchers, who have become more and more qualified, are successful in the national competition for funding.

In a national comparison, the extent of research at University West is small. To still be able to reach highest international level the university focuses on profile areas which are already advanced. Most important profile areas are research on Production Technology and on Work Integrated Learning. In 2011 University West was authorized to issue doctorate level degrees in both areas.
