Why did you apply to University West?

I was searching for different programmes when considering studying something in IT and programming. And I already knew a couple of students studying here and former students that were very satisfied with the education and the encouragement given by the teachers.

Did the programme meet your expectations?

It started off the way I thought it would and then it expanded into new subjects and I never really expected that there would be so much I needed to learn, as I knew people who did the same programme earlier. But on the whole, it was much more interesting than I anticipated.

What is the most exciting thing you have done during your studies (for example, any specific course, project, internship etc.)? Tell us about that.

Work Integrated Learning. This can be a valuable experience, both in a good and bad sense, but all experiences like this were good to have when getting out in real-world IT companies. For example, we were in contact with a company where that person had no idea what product was needed. This gave us the chance to help that company to figure out its needs and desires to be able to provide the service they intended to. This made the planned assignment of programming change more of a documentation and real-life scenario of the many roles within IT.

Can you describe the environment/culture at the university?

It’s a centrally located area in Trollhättan, where the culture is friendly, and people are considerate. The environment while studying is what you want it to be. You can be outside in the park or inside in a quiet room. The teachers are welcoming if you have questions or issues during the day when they are in their offices, which makes it feel more genuine like you have a connection when they can talk openly with you. There are plenty of rooms and places to sit and study or just have a chat with friends when having a coffee.

What do you think about student life in Trollhättan?

I myself have been active in student life and can whole-heartedly say that it’s very nice and there are many students who want to make plans to do things in their spare time. So whatever one wants to do, there are always people who want to join in. And though the city may be small it’s not far from Gothenburg for bigger events and exploring. But there are still weekly pub events and other means of gathering on campus.

What are you doing when you are not studying?

I play games, organize student events and try to teach my cats to do high-fives, the latter is the biggest challenge yet. But other than that, since I live with my fiancé, we try to do road trips and spend time with other students that we have become friends with over the years.

Tell us about your future plans?

I am actually moving to the east coast of Sweden for a job that I was offered, as my fiancé is from that area. I plan to spend a few years learning as much as possible while contributing as best I can. After that I want to study part time to advance my knowledge of how to lead and take on bigger assignments and advance within the organization. There is so much time to spend on work so why not spread it out by studying and hopefully we’ll have a bigger family one day.

How do you think studying here at University West and your programme can help you to reach your goals?

Well, this position wouldn’t have been possible without these studies, but also this University and this programme are held in high regard among many companies, which makes it a perfect thing to talk about when at interviews. The programme actually has many variations to suit what you want to become and learn more about by way of various courses, it is possibile to work at a company during the term and such. And to be honest, the teachers motivated me to learn more and the whole experience made me want to continue my studies, so who knows, maybe I’ll be back for that master’s in a few years.
