Deformation and Fracture Mechanics, 7.5 hp
Introduction to deformation and fracture mechanics. Mechanical properties such as creep, fatigue and fracture toughness of metals. Primarily steel will be in focus, other alloys will be covered as examples. Means to avoid or minimize risks for fatigue damage in the design process. Environmental assisted cracking and strengthening mechanisms of metals are covered. Evaluation of material properties. During the course there will be weekly mandatory quizzes and a project where the students have to write a report and make a presentation.
