Materials Science and Engineering, 7.5 credits
Course Information
This course gives a broad insight to materials science basics and its connection to various manufacturing processes as well as possible applications. To select an appropriate material is an crucial task in engineering design; that is, for some application, choosing a material having a desirable or optimum property or combination of properties. By selecting the proper material as well as manufacturing process one can reduce costs, improve performance and sustainability. Topics of this decision process involve deciding on the constraints of the problem and, from these, establishing criteria that can be used in materials selection to maximize performance. This course is suitable for undergraduates with science, applied science, engineering or related degrees interested to pursue with a career in the development or exploitation of materials and manufacturing; or individuals with other qualifications who possess relevant experience.FACTS
