Professional development in electrical engineering

Our short courses in electrical engineering are developed in collaboration with the industry to meet their substantial competency needs. If you lack university eligibility, we validate your work experience.

Vehicle manufacturers, electric energy producers, electricity distributors, technical companies, and many other stakeholders have a significant need for new expertise in electrical engineering. The demand is increasing rapidly as the vehicle fleet becomes electrified. At the same time, major challenges are expected for the energy system as electricity demand rises sharply, non-dispatchable electricity sources expand, and electricity needs to be distributed over increasingly longer distances.

University West and Uppsala University are together addressing the industry's competence needs with advanced-level courses tailored for working engineers. The courses have been developed in close collaboration with twelve companies from various industries: Atlas Copco, GKN Aerospace, Hitachi, Intel, Polestar, Svenska kraftnät, T-Engineering, Vattenfall, Alstom, Swedish Electromobility Centre, Sandvik, and StandUp for Energy.

Courses in spring 2026

The 2.5-credit courses called "overview" differ from the 5-credit course in the same subject. The theory is read together, the difference is that in the 5-credit course the theory is applied in a project work.

The courses are designed for you to study alongside your job. For example, many courses can be taken on campus or online.

The courses are free of charge and shorter compared to our regular courses—most run over a 5-week period. You can choose which courses you want to build on and apply in the same way as for other university programs.

Do you lack university eligibility?

Even if you don't have formal qualifications, such as grades or diplomas, you may have the knowledge that meets the eligibility requirements for the course. We apply a validation of work experience, which means we can assess your competence based on both formal credentials and work experience.

To enable us to validate, attach your resume under the "Qualifications" tab on antagning.se or in our local application form when you apply. The resume should include:

Relevant and recent work experience
Education
Working languages
Signature of your immediate supervisor

The courses are developed in collaboration with industry

To meet the competence needs of the business sector, we develop the courses in close collaboration with industrial companies and relevant networks. We maintain an ongoing dialogue about which knowledge and skills are relevant for the industry today and in the future.

All courses offer university credits upon successful completion of assessments, regardless of whether you have prior university eligibility or not.
