In 2019, the majority of Swedish universities and colleges joined the Climate Framework.  Since 2021, SUHF's expert group for collaboration has taken responsibility for the Climate Framework.

The climate framework is a framework for higher education institution-specific climate strategies with the aim of engaging universities and colleges in Sweden to contribute to both national and international commitments to achieve the so-called 1.5-degree target.

The climate framework has been created on the initiative of universities and colleges with the ambition to clearly contribute to the climate transition in line with society's national and international commitments.

Higher education institutions have an important task to contribute through teaching and research, but also need to contribute by reducing the impact of their own activities. The higher education institutions that have signed this framework see the climate as a crucial and prioritized issue for the future.

To SUHF's website - where you will find the Climate Framework (as pdf)

This is the commitment that the higher education institutions make within the Climate Framework:

  • We will continue to contribute to society being able to achieve set goals through education, research and collaboration.
  • We will reduce our own climate impact in line with society's commitments as expressed in national and international agreements.
  • We will set far-reaching goals for climate work and also allocate resources so that we can achieve these goals and carry out follow-ups.
  • We will clearly communicate our climate work to inspire and spread knowledge to
other actors and to members of society.

You can find University West's decided climate goals here.

The Higher Education Climate Network coordinate the universities work reaching the climate goals within the network.
