Rules and guidelines

University West has recently adopted both a policy for handling artificial intelligence and updated guidelines for course memos, which together constitute the regulatory framework that governs the use of AI in education.

According to FUN's updated guidelines for course memos and examinations (effective from Autumn 2024), all course memos must contain information about how generative AI may be used in the course, and its use in examinations must be clearly regulated. The tool can support the students' work, but also make it more difficult to assess individual students' knowledge, which makes these guidelines absolutely central.

According to University West's policy for handling artificial intelligence (adopted June 2025), students, teachers, researchers and other employees, individually and collectively, are expected to actively use, explore and integrate AI tools in their activities. The policy establishes principles for an academically responsible approach and emphasises that the higher education institution shall promote a culture of knowledge, innovation and creativity, while maintaining high standards of quality, ethics and academic integrity.

Further educate your AI skills

Within the framework of the project AI for All , University West has developed a self-study course in generative AI that all employees are expected to complete by spring 2026. Modules 2 and 3 conclude with knowledge tests to meet the requirements of the EU AI Regulation, Article 4, on AI skills.

The self-study course consists of six modules and together covers a wide spectrum, from basic understanding of what generative AI is and how the technology works, to practical use, information security and source criticism. The modules also deal with the larger perspective, i.e. how AI is changing working life and which approaches may be relevant for both organizations and individuals. One of the modules is specifically aimed at teaching staff and deals with how generative AI affects knowledge, teaching and assessment, as well as how to work pedagogically sustainably in an educational environment where AI is already present.

The content is presented in a variety of formats, including recorded lectures, interactive exercises, reflection questions and concrete prompts to try on your own. The pedagogical approach is designed to provide the opportunity to both acquire knowledge and to put it into practice, with room for reflection on one's own work role and activities.
