Hi Valérie, what are you studying?
Hi! I’m studying computer science at my home university, and here in Trollhättan, I’ve decided to focus on software engineering.

Why did you choose that field of study?
It allows me to combine creativity with technical expertise. I’ve had a passion for technology and understanding how things work since a young age. This field lets me merge that passion with my creative side, and I love building things. I believe computers and computer-controlled systems are the future, and I want to contribute to shaping that future.

Why did you choose to come to Sweden and University West?
Sweden has a lot to offer, and I wanted to explore new opportunities and take steps forward in my life. I was also drawn to how the course is structured, which ultimately hooked me.

What were your first impressions of Sweden?
There were a lot of firsts during my initial days, which made me nervous and a bit uncomfortable. However, I quickly adapted, and everything has settled now.

In the beginning it was about exploring, adjusting, and realizing that I’m no longer in Czechia. People here are friendly, and they actually stop at crosswalks, which is different from what I’m used to back home!

What did you know about Sweden before coming here?
Not a lot—mainly the names of some hockey players (since I love hockey), a few basic facts, and the fact that elk cause a lot of car accidents here.

What do you hope that your term at University West will give you?
I’m hoping to gain essential life skills, experience working on group projects, and the ability to deliver functional projects. I also hope to make new friends and connections along the way.

University West and your “home university” of Silesian University are members of STARS EU. What do you think a European university alliance like that can mean for students?
I believe it offers many opportunities for students, and everyone stands to benefit from it.
