The Committee for good research practice and ethics
The Committee for Good Research Practices and Ethics is a permanent committee of the Research and Education Board (FUN) at University West.
The main responsibility of the Committee for good research practice and ethics is to monitor and prepare the research ethics issues for the Research and Education Board at University West and through its proactive work, support a strong research ethics culture and working methods among the university's researchers, teachers and students. This includes:
- monitor the research ethics issues, in terms of rules, legislation and other regulations
- prepare issues for the Research and Education Board regarding research ethics cases (for example, produce guidelines and guiding documents, respond to official reports, carry out quality follow-up of research ethics aspects)
- support the university's researchers, teachers and students in research ethics issues, through information on the university's website and, if necessary, by arranging seminars / workshops, with a special focus on research misconduct, good research practice and ethical review
- in other ways, promote a strong research ethics culture and good research practice.
Decision mandate
By delegation from FUN, the committee is responsible for the following tasks:
- determining advisory statements regarding the need for ethical review of planned research projects, and providing any recommendations to strengthen and ensure the quality of the application
- determining advisory statements concerning research ethics review in relation to good research practice for research projects that are not subject to mandatory ethical review
- where applicable, issuing certificates related to annual follow‑ups of research projects in relation to the Ethical Review Authority’s decision on approval and conditions for approval.
