Politics and Society
The Politics and Society cluster brings together transdisciplinary research with a focus on different levels of analysis – local, regional, national, international and global.
Driven by a strong commitment to applied perspectives, in line with the University's Work Integrated Learning profile, we study crucial challenges in contemporary societies such as sustainability (mal)practices, civil society (dis)engagement in politics, knowledge production and (lack of) transfer for decision-making, (de)democratization and (in)security. We use different theoretical perspectives and a wide range of methods to provide a deeper understanding of these phenomena, contributing to more robust socio-political solutions. The research is clearly fed into all our educational programmes. Our researchers collaborate in projects with researchers from other universities in Sweden and abroad, as well as various public and civil society actors. We produce high-quality research, published in leading academic journals as well as more practical reports. Many of us are also active in public debates and spread the knowledge from our projects on topics such as elections, urban policy, integration, sustainability and foreign policy.
