For graduating student Asitha Prabhath, who moved from Sri Lanka to study at University West, completing the programme is a proud achievement.

“It feels awesome to have graduated and to have completed the programme within the time frame. I’m really happy about that,” he says.

The programme is designed to meet the demands of modern industry, where sustainability, advanced materials and smart manufacturing play an increasingly important role. Students gain broad competence in areas such as manufacturing processes, materials science, robotics, automation and digital technologies, preparing them for work in integrated industrial systems.

Developed in close collaboration with industry, the programme has strong ties to companies such as GKN Aerospace, Volvo Cars and Siemens. Work-integrated learning is a central part of the education, giving students hands-on experience through real industry projects, access to advanced manufacturing laboratories and opportunities for industrial placements in Sweden or abroad.

Choosing Sweden and an international education

Asitha Prabhath was drawn to both Sweden and the international profile of the programme when choosing where to study.

“I really like Sweden, and when I looked at the courses, the International Mechanical Engineering programme felt like a good fit for me,” he explains.

Looking ahead, the future offers several possibilities.

With a strong focus on sustainability, advanced manufacturing and work-integrated learning, the programme continues to attract students from around the world and provides graduates with a solid foundation for careers in industry or further studies, both in Sweden and internationally.
