Mathias Lundin and Stephen Billett are strongly connected to to the university's two areas of strength, Production Technology and Work-Integrated learning. 

The nomination for Mathias Lundin points in particular to: 

Through his extensive work and commitment, Mathias Lundin has made a significant contribution to University West's operations, especially in teaching and standardization of welding. With great competence and passion, he has, among other things, taught, where he has played a central role in conveying knowledge about the complex and technical aspects of welding. Through their efforts, the students have gained a deeper understanding of the requirements and standards that govern the welding industry, which has prepared them well for future professional practice. His commitment has had a profound impact on Sweden's industry. Through his work, he has created important links between academia and industry, which has fostered collaboration and innovation. Mathias Lundin has also been a strong advocate for education and skill development in welding. 

- I am very honored and grateful for the appointment. I also see it as recognition of an important industry for the development of Swedish industry. I am really passionate about the meeting between academia and industry. I hope to continue the efforts of this cross-fertilizing collaboration with even more vigor through this appointment, says Mathias Lundin. 

Nomination for Stephen Billett specifically points to the following: 

Stephen Billett is a highly regarded educator. Over the years, Stephen Billett has contributed in many different ways to the university's operations. To ensure Work-Integrated learning, WIL, as the core of the university's postgraduate education, Billett has contributeat various levels, partly through teaching, but also as a critical reviewer of dissertation scripts, articles and applications. Billett's efforts in the work to WIL-certify all the university's programs at undergraduate and advanced level have been decisive. His biggest contribution is in research where he has designed projects and co-written articles with colleagues. He has a very good knowledge of the WIL-field worldwide. His theoretical models for understanding lifelong learning in different contexts are reflected in many of the university's theses. 
  
- It is a great honor to be granted this award, and even more so because it's from a university that has championed and enacted work integrated education in a way that positions it as a global leader in this field, says Stephen Billett. 
  
The doctoral award ceremony will take place at the academic ceremony at University West, on December 6, 2024.
