University West has joined the International Association of Universities (IAU). The organization brings together members from over 130 countries and, among other things, works to strengthen the academy and academic freedom.
- The societal challenges facing humanity are global. To help meet these challenges, academic institutions must have an ability to work across national borders and between different research fields. The IAU plays a large role in that process and it will be exciting to participate in their work, says Martin Hellström, Vice-chancellor of University West.
The IAU is also a member of UNESCO and brings together not only universities, but also other organizations working with higher education and research. The focus is on topics such as leadership, internationalization, sustainable development, and digital development.
- Many of the topics that IAU works with are also ones that University West prioritizes. Our membership will give us new perspectives and insights into these areas, thereby strengthening us in the strategic work that lies ahead, says Gunnar Peterson, senior advisor for strategic internationalization at University West.
