Technology and learning in an exciting combination!
Starting in 2018, the university has established Primus research environment which, via the Knowledge Foundation's ten-year program "KK-environment", shall develop strong research and education in technology and learning. Primus connects research in Production Technology with research in Work Integrated Learning in the new subject Industrial Work Integrated Learning. Primus ultimately aims to strengthen Swedish industry.
We do research together with others!
The research at University West has a strong collaborative profile and the majority of all research is conducted together with others in both the private and public sectors. The research is highly applicable with many external funders contributing. The research that is conducted has Work Integrated Learning, WIL, as a common denominator. A unique research program is also conducted within Work Integrated Learning.
PhD students in collaboration with others!
Our strong collaborative profile is also reflected in our research education. Here, so-called third-party doctoral students are actively promoted who have employment in a business outside the academy in parallel with their doctoral education.
By creating new knowledge in close collaboration with an external party, new research results can thus have an increased imprint and impact on society. In 2021, approximately a quarter of the university's doctoral students were third-party doctoral students in both industry, municipalities and government operations. A few exemples are GKN Aerospace, Trollhättans Stad, Campus Västervik and NU-sjukvården.
