Cyberattack on Canvas

The provider of the Canvas learning management system has been subject to a hacker attack. There is information indicating that personal data may have been leaked and that a large number of higher education institutions are affected. University West is in contact with the service provider to obtain more information.

Canvas was unavailable from approximately 10:30 PM on 7 May to 5:00 AM on 8 May.

Canvas calendar is not currently being updated.

FeedbackFruits is not working.

The information that may have been exposed includes, in some cases, user data such as name, email address, student ID, and messages between users in Canvas. At present, there is no information indicating that passwords have been affected. 

What can you do?
As a precautionary measure, we recommend that you:

• remain alert to suspicious emails or login requests
• do not share your login credentials
• use strong and unique passwords
