Civil society organizations such as diplomatic actors? How civil society affects feminist and anti-feminist foreign policy in an era of polarization
The project aims to study how expert civil society organizations {CSOs) influence foreign policy and the international polarization on gender issues.
Theoretically, the project establishes a connection between two research fields: on civil society and on diplomacy. In some circumstances (in bilateral relations and in relation to the MFAs) the CSOs take the role of advisors with respect to diplomacy, i.e., knowledge and idea producers. In other circumstances (in multilateral relations), they take on the diplomatic role themselves. Empirically, the project sheds light on a new international cleavage that is currently taking shape - between states that proclaim feminism and liberal values and those who proclaim antifeminism and illiberal values.
Poland has been selected as an example of antifeminist foreign policy, Sweden as an example of feminist foreign policy and the EU as an international forum there these positions clash
