CMEC - Cluster of Excellence for Circular Materials and Manufacturing Technology
CMEC (Circular Materials and Manufacturing Excellence Cluster) aims to accelerate sustainable materials and manufacturing innovations to achieve full circularity in value chains by 2035.
The vision is for secondary materials to become the primary source for advanced engineering products. The initiative brings together leading Swedish universities (Chalmers, KTH, JU, University West) and RISE with industrial partners including Volvo, GKN Aerospace, and SAAB. By combining AI, simulation, thermodynamic modelling, rapid testing, and pilot-scale demonstrations, CMEC seeks to cut cost and time in material qualification. The cluster builds on existing initiatives such as LIGHTer, XPRES, WISE, and CIRCUMET, alongside international collaborations in AM, composites, casting, and hydrogen materials.
