COMEJOIN - Novel sustainable joining technique for metal and composite’s structure
The aim of COMEJOIN is to investigate green and sustainable joining technique i.e., Friction Stir Welding (FSW), specifically focusing on high-strength aluminium grades used in airframe structures.
Currently, joining of these materials involves drilling holes and installing fasteners. This project will eliminate the need for large numbers of fastener/screws joints with a sustainable solution of FSW to achieve much lighter, robust, and cost-efficient assembly for airframe structure. The key technical goals of this project are to develop a friction stir welding procedure for achieving strong joints with the help of online process monitoring and control system.
