RECOVER - REuse and Circular Utilization of OVERspray waste from thermal spray
This project demonstrates elegant re-use of waste from thermal spray (TS) processes for potential life-extension of industrial components, thus contributing in a dual way to Net Zero Industry.
Unprecedented industrial expansion in recent times has led to growing raw material and energy demand, rise in waste generation and stress on natural reserves. Notwithstanding current waste management measures, there remain significant opportunities to repurpose waste to improve circular resource flow and strengthen resilience of manufacturing industries. This project demonstrates elegant re-use of waste from thermal spray (TS) processes for potential life-extension of industrial components, thus contributing in a dual way to Net Zero Industry. Conducted in collaboration with industrial solution-owner and need-owner partners, the project additionally aims to reduce consumption of critical raw materials such as W and Co extensively deployed in TS and other applications to address problems of wear. Expected outcomes include enhanced circularity in TS, improved resource efficiency and strengthened value-chain resilience.
