The aim of this AVANS project named AMECO is to develop a 2-year Master's Programme in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering with Co-op education strategy. The programme is planned to start in Sept. 2018. The development and execution of the programme will be in co-production with external industrial partners. The industry partner activities are mainly: a) Participation in industrial advisory board for the programme, b) Forming the course content for selected courses and possibly offering industrial guest lectures and c) Offering Co-op positions and projects as well as participating to develop the Co-op model along with supervising Co-op students. AMECO will help University West in it positioning, profiling and creating a complete academic environment. Furthermore, the new programme will offer in depth education in the field of research in manufacturing processes for University West. Finally, a larger collaboration and co-production with industry in education, both for students and for professionals is expected to have a boosting effect when seeking for new industrial research partners. The project will take master education in manufacturing engineering in Sweden to a new level as it has the ambition to involve the industry both in development of courses as well as fostering the master students into advanced engineering work in Swedish companies. This new approach will require additional efforts in development work. In particular, the following activities will require the majority of funding in AMECO: a) Development of new course content, with participation of external stakeholders (industry/business), b) Development of Co-op model for master students, including identifying and encouraging companies to create Co-op positions, c) Development of models that show how to integrate research and education activities d) Dissemination in conferences/events with focus in competence development/collaboration between University and business, in national/international conferences and e) Marketing activities to increase student recruitment and number of students in the programme. Overall results and impact objectives of AMECO are to: a) Create an attractive education that more than triple the total number of students at the advanced level in Manufacturing Engineering, b) Integrate research and education activities at University West by involving students in research projects during courses and thesis works, c) Renew and profile education activities nationally and internationally by offering a unique combination of advanced manufacturing technology related courses and d) Create synergies with other programmes and education within University West by sharing courses with the existing master programme in automation and furthermore, by using University West’s experience and profile in Work Integrated Learning in development of Co-op.
