Through the group's earlier research, there is a simulation model for an entire sheet metal press line in the automotive industry.
In this project, the researchers are working on increasing the speed of simulations. As these are extremely complex calculations, it can take several weeks to get the results. One way to make the process faster is to simplify the shapes of the objects that are included. A tool that has a slight bend might have to be straight in the simulation and peripheral objects may be ignored completely. The idea is that the simplification of reality will later be performed automatically by means of new software.
