HiPerCOAT aims to develop next-generation coatings to extend performance and durability of industrial components that experience excessive wear during routine operation. It seeks to do so by first establishing a fundamental understanding of coating process-microstructure-performance relationships in emergent high
velocity air fuel (HVAF) and suspension plasma spray (SPS) techniques and exploiting the ensuing knowledge to suitably tailor the coating properties. The complementary experience and expertise of a carefully chosen network of industrial partners is to be utilized through co-production to accomplish the above and, thereby,
address the incessant industrial demand for coatings with superior tribological  performance in harsh operating environments. Although three distinct applications (ranging from gas turbine components to parts of wood chipping equipment and doctor blades) have been chosen to demonstrate efficacy of developed HVAF and
SPS coatings through field trials, the outcome will be of immediate interest to many other Swedish industries.
