The impact of the energy transition on voltage stability in the Swedish power system
The project aims to increase knowledge about how the energy transition with new production sources, new consumption, extended networks and varying power flows will affect the voltage stability in the power system and how the new production sources can actively contribute to increase the voltage stability.
Voltage stability and the risk of a voltage collapse is one of the stability phenomena that are dimensioning for the Swedish power system. The project aims to increase knowledge about how the energy transition with new production sources, new consumption, extended networks and varying power flows will affect the voltage stability in the power system and how the new production sources can actively contribute to increase the voltage stability.
Increased knowledge provides the opportunity to utilize various production sources and other equipment more efficiently, integrate more renewables onshore and offshore, and operate the power system closer to its limits as the margins of uncertainty will decrease. In this way, the power transmission can be increased, which also leads to a more efficient utilization of the power system and thus lower socio-economic costs.
