THERMO-MECHANICAL PROCESSING OF NI-BASE SUPERALLOYS (THERMECHPRO)
Due to the high temperatures and extreme mechanical loads encountered in the hot sections of aero engines, the use of advanced superalloys is required. These alloys are very complex, making them both expensive and difficult to process. As problems in the manufacturing process can result in costly deviations as well as undesired variations in the final material properties, it is essential to develop a profound understanding of the relationships between process, microstructure and properties. The project aims to address this issue for the newly developed superalloy Haynes 282, which has rapidly become an important material for aero engine applications. Through systematic studies of the effects of different forging parameters and subsequent heat treatments on the final mechanical properties, critical phenomena and relationships will be identified and described in models.
