The ongoing transition to more renewable energy production, the expansion of the transmission and distribution system and changes in the consumption means that the design and operation of the power system must be reviewed to maintain a robust and stable power system. Transient stability is one of the stability phenomena that are dimensioning for the Swedish power system. The project aims to increase knowledge about how the changes of the components in the grid, extended networks and varying power flows will affect the transient stability in the power system and how the new production sources can contribute to transient stability.

Increased knowledge gives the possibility to utilize various production sources and other equipment more efficiently, enables more renewables and enables the power system to operate closer to its limits. In this way, the power transmission can be increased, which also leads to a more efficient utilization of the power system and lower socio-economic costs.
