The project aims at optmizing the performance of the ACTS pieces through an optimization of its constituent materials.
Directed Energy Deposition for Industrial Competitiveness in Additive manufacturing Technologies.
The competence development initiative ExSus2 aims to support companies to meet the rapid technological and societal development required to address the challenges facing society.
In this EU-funded project, University West's researchers will investigate whether additive manufacturing of solar cell receivers can be the key to more efficient solar energy plants.
WAAM (wire arc additive manufacturing) is a manufacturing method that combines traditional welding with additive manufacturing.
Powder bed fusion additive manufacturing of metal (PBF-AM) is an important research area for the manufacturing industry. This form of additive manufacturing makes it possible to manufacture components with complex geometries in a more efficient way. Among other applications of interest are components for gas turbines and aircraft engines.
The goal is to reuse end-of-life large-scale pipe blanks from the energy sector, which are then repaired with AM and adapted for circular design. This creates a significantly more sustainable cycle, where several tens of tons of steel parts are reused instead of recycled. The circular design creates the possibility for recurring repair and thus planned ageing.
