The overall project involves transforming a municipal nursing home into an academic care facility. Many individuals who wish to die in residential care still die in hospitals, with lack of knowledge and competence identified as contributing factors. In this subproject, an educational intervention on palliative care is carried out with the aim of enabling more people to die where they wish. A VR application for experiential simulation in palliative care is combined with a national web-based training program. It investigates staff knowledge and attitudes toward end-of-life care before and after the intervention, their experiences of participating in the intervention, as well as effects on end-of-life care, assessed through focus group interviews with staff and analysis of the facility’s own registry data from the Swedish Palliative Register.
