I am an Associate Professor (Docent) in Nursing and a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences. My primary research interests are health and well-being and the assessment of care needs.
My research on older adults’ health and well-being focuses on the importance of lifestyle for the health of older people, on how we can support active and healthy ageing, on older adults’ attitudes toward oral health and assisted oral care, and on health problems such as recurrent urinary tract infections in old women.
Research on the assessment of care needs mainly concerns telephone-based assessment but also includes studies aimed at increasing older adults’ participation in their own health through the use of an interactive mobile application (virtual systems) for visualizing current health status combined with interactive self-care guidance.
I have a clinical background as a district nurse and advanced practice nurse in primary health care, with a particular focus on infectious diseases in outpatient settings.
In 2011 I earned my PhD at Umeå University with the dissertation Urinary tract infection – a serious health problem in old women.
I conducted a postdoctoral project at Karolinska Institutet (2014–2015) focusing on a person-centered intervention to increase patient participation in health management in municipal home healthcare, supported by an interactive mobile application. This project was part of a larger initiative, PROHealth-e, carried out in collaboration with researchers from Karolinska Institutet, Örebro University, and Halmstad University.
External Assignments
I have served as an educational reviewer, member of examination boards, and reviewer for international scientific journals.
Teaching/Supervision
At University West I primarily teach at the advanced level in specialist nursing programs. I supervise students’ theses at both undergraduate and advanced levels and serve as supervisor for doctoral students. I was recognized as a Merited Teacher (2020) and have extensive teaching experience, especially in specialist education (district nursing and advanced practice nursing) from my 17 years at the University of Skövde.
