University West is one of the higher education institutions affected by a data breach in the learning management system Canvas. The incident affects approximately 9,000 institutions and around 275 million students worldwide.
It has been confirmed that an information leak has occurred.
Those responsible for the attack now state that all data has been returned to Instructure (the owner of Canvas) and that the data will not be further disseminated.
At the same time, the University wishes to emphasize that in incidents of this nature it is never possible to know with complete certainty how the data has been handled.

Is there any risk?
As the data has been returned, there should be no risk. However, it is always advisable to remain vigilant for phishing attempts, such as suspicious emails or fake login requests. Be particularly cautious and do not click on links or open attachments from unknown or suspicious senders.

All integrations with other systems are now working again, meaning that everything is functioning as normal.

Unless something unexpected occurs, the university plans to reopen all connections to other systems tomorrow, 13 May, from 07:00. This means that all will then be operating as normal again.

As a precautionary measure, some integrations with other systems will be temporarily disabled. This means that certain functions within Canvas will not operate as usual. For example, the schedule in Canvas will not be updated. You can access your schedule directly via KronoX.

During the night between 7 and 8 May, Canvas has been intermittently unavailable due to the data breach.
At present, Canvas at University West is largely functioning as normal.
However, integrations between Canvas and other systems are affected. For example, the Canvas calendar is currently not being updated. The schedule is available and kept up to date in KronoX.
Swedish higher education institutions are coordinating their efforts to manage the incident.
