What is Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the European Commission's programme for higher education and aims to enhance quality, cooperation, and mobility within higher education in Europe. Through Erasmus+, students, teachers, and administrative staff can exchange a period of activity at University West for a period at one of our partner universities or a company elsewhere in Europe.

As part of the work to increase mobility and collaboration, each universtiy can apply for scholarship funding annually from the Erasmus+ programme from the European Commission to support students, teachers, and staff to participate in Erasmus mobility.

There are clear regulations regarding how much funding can be allocated and under what conditions.

Because substantial amounts of funding are involved, participation in Erasmus mobility requires a certain level of documentation, enabling the national agencies (in Sweden, the Swedish Council for Higher Education – UHR) to follow up and ensure that everything has been carried out correctly.
Read more about Erasmus+ on the European Commission’s website.

Erasmus+ charter, rights and obligations

To be able to participate in the Erasmus+ programme, a university must have been awarded an Erasmus Charter. The Charter defines the commitments and responsibilities of the higher education institution towards Erasmus students, as well as the rights and obligations of the students.

You can read more about your rights and responsibilities in the Erasmus Student Charter below

Documentation for studies and internships within Erasmus+

In order for us, as a public authority, to provide students with funding from the Erasmus+ programme, participating students are required to submit mandatory documentation and data. This documentation ensures that your study or internship period abroad can be credited as part of your education or appear in your degree certificate (in the so-called Diploma Supplement) after completion of your studies.

Please find more information on this below.

Funding

There are several scholarships available. You apply for one of these at the  same time as you apply for studies or an internship abroad. It is not guaranteed that scholarships are available for all applicants, but there are good opportunities.

Students with disabilities, parents of children under the age of 15, or students with previous or ongoing protection status in Sweden are entitled to additional support through the programme.

You can read more about how the funding is calculated below.
