Short information about the program

MFS (Minor Field Studies) is a scholarship program aimed at providing students with an international interest the opportunity to gain knowledge about developing countries and development issues.

During a field study in a developing country lasting at least eight consecutive weeks, you will be able gather material for your thesis work at undergraduate or advanced level.

The thesis must be written in English, and the study should be in line with one or more relevant strategies within Swedish development cooperation in the chosen country.

Each student granted a Minor Field Studies scholarship receives 35,000 SEK. The scholarship is a is not intended to cover all expenses during the field period. You will usually need to supplement cost with, for example, student loan.

The scholarship is personal and cannot be shared, but it is possible for two project participants to write a joint thesis, where

each student receives their own scholarship and their contributions to the joint work are assessed separately.

In the section "How is the selection made?" below, you will find guidelines on what to consider when planning your project.

The application deadline is September 30, 2025 (for field study during spring semester 2026) – see below for more information.
