Studies abroad
What can I do to study a semeter abroad?
Different study destinations:
The exchange agreements that University West has with partner universities around the world give you the opportunity to apply for study places in many different countries.
The majority of our agreements are with partners within the EU/EEA, as our opportunities to fund study places through the programme are strong in these countries. However, we also have agreements outside the EU/EEA where funding for study places is available, although in more limited numbers.
We define subject areas in our agreements, which are based on within which area the partner university offers courses in English in general.
When you apply for a study place, you also apply for funding for that place at the same time, so no additional application is required.
If you plan to study outside the EU/EEA, you should be aware that you will need to check requirements for visa and possible vaccinations.
The documentation required for studies abroad is the same whether you study within or outside the EU/EEA (see below). However, if an admitted student is granted a scholarship, additional documentation will be required.
What to think of:
- Start by finding out what opportunities there are within your program. In some cases, there are periods with elective studies or similar – in others, there are not. You can consult your international coordinator, or check the we pages Exchange per department if information is available there.
- Check among our partner universities to see where you can study the subjects you are interested in (link provided below).
- Browse the partner universities’ websites and to check what courses they offer in English.
- Contact your international coordinator at your department or programme manager to ensure that the courses you want to take abroad can be recognized and credited toward your degree.
- Submit your application to us well in advance, as it can take time to put together a complete application with a solid plan, as the number of places at each university is limited. You submit your application online on the start page (www.hv.se/goabroad), where the link is published during the application period.
