Simulation-Based Optimisation of PLC's - SimBO
The automotive industry is suffering on poor capacity utilization, although the utilization of machines has been increased up to 90%, the overall usage is only about 50%–70%.
The aim of this research project is to increase the capacity utilisation of automated manufacturing plants using new simulation-based optimisation methods. The expected project result is an effective simulation-based parameter optimisation method for automated manufacturing systems that handles complex control functions. The result includes a suitable optimisation algorithm, applicable for highly non-linear objective functions with multiple local optima, high dimensionality, and long evaluation times.
The industrial goal is to find a useful off-line optimisation method, considering all complex control functions and where it is possible to directly transfer optimised process parameters from a simulation to the manufacturing plant. The results of the project will be verified and used in existing production already during the project period, in collaboration with Binar Elektronik at an automotive tandem sheet-metal press line at Volvo Cars.
