Identity development is a complex task for all youth, but especially for ethnic minorities who face additional challenges and opportunities due to their position in society. The complexities that lay at the intersection of self and society are best captured through diverse methods. Qualitative studies provide rich material that can serve as the seed for future quantitative studies, and quantitative studies always leave unanswered questions that can be investigated using qualitative studies. This presentation will draw on published and ongoing work to highlight how using mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative methods) has led to new insights about identity development.
