This session focuses on story completion as an innovative way to generate qualitative data. In story completion, the researcher develops a story stem and invites participants to write a hypothetical story in response. The method is particularly suited to exploring sensitive or controversial topics, including those that might be prone to normative expectations and socially desirable responses. Nikki will draw on her own experience, including as a member of the Story Completion Research Group, to introduce the method and consider some of the possibilities and potential challenges for researchers considering using story completion studies.
