WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR UNIVERSITY WEST?

  • Earlier this week, I made the decision to convene the university's crisis management team that continuously monitors the situation and is ready to make quick decisions if needed. The university's crisis preparedness group has been active for several weeks, but we have now entered the highest level of preparedness.

  • As of right now, there are no plans to close the university. Ordinary activities will continue according to plan. This is in accordance with recommendations from the responsible authorities. However, we understand that a government decision on closure could come at short notice and we are prepared to act.

  • We have mapped the crucial functions of our university on the basis that we will do everything we can to maintain teaching, research and examination even in a situation of increased sick leave among students and staff, or a closure of the university's premises. Yesterday (March 13) a risk analysis was conducted among all units at the university which showed that we are well prepared to handle such a situation.

  • We have appointed a working group that is working to strengthen support for distance education and distance studies.

  • Regarding conferences and events, we follow government guidelines not to arrange meetings with more than 500 people. Therefore, our Open House, which was scheduled for March 21, has been cancelled.

  • We strongly advise all employees and students against traveling to affected areas and we recommend being restrictive regarding other trips. For business trips, there are clear guidelines regarding the Coronavirus.

  • Of course, we urge everyone to follow the recommendations of the Swedish Public Health Authority. Stay home if you're sick. Wash your hands. If you have symptoms of respiratory infection, including mild symptoms, it is important that you limit social contacts to reduce the risk of infecting others.

The crisis management team at University West monitors developments regarding the Coronavirus closely and meets regularly. We keep information on our webpage about Corona updated, both in Swedish and English. It is of utmost importance that all staff and students stay informed.
