If you’ve ever wondered how digitalization as a process unfolds within manufacturing organizations—not in glossy PowerPoint slides, but in everyday conversations, strategic documents, and the slightly awkward metaphors people use to make sense of change—then we have something in common.

My research focuses on how leaders in the manufacturing industry discuss and navigate digitalization as a process over time. I’m particularly interested in how we discuss human centricity—what it means, who gets to define it, and whether it serves as a genuine guiding principle or merely a buzzword in organizational discourse. Drawing on social representations theory and sense-making, I focus on how leaders construct meaning through language, metaphor, and visual elements such as participant-generated drawings.
Work-integrated learning (WIL) is another central thread in my work, both as a teaching method and for understanding the relationship between working life and learning. At University West, I serve as the program director, together with Professor Laurence Piper, for three international master’s programs:

Each program brings together students, lecturers, and researchers to explore the concept of learning in a broad sense, encompassing change and socialization processes linked to knowledge and competence.
