Target audience

This course is aimed at you who want to learn about thermal spraying and how thermal spraying could make your processes/production more sustainable. It is suitable for both beginners as well as those who have some experience in coating production or characterisation.  

Content

The course consists of online seminars and an in person laboratory visit. 
The course contains an introduction to surface engineering and principles of different types of thermal spray processes. Fundamental mechanisms of coating formation will be discussed. An overview of coating characterisation techniques and properties will be presented. Real life examples where thermal spray can be used to promote sustainability will be provided and discussed. 

Prerequisites

Three years of higher education (Bachelor level) in engineering & technology (Bachelor degree corresponding to 180CP). Alternatively relevant professional work experience.

Implementation and pedagogic concept

The course is based on University West’s concept of work integrated learning, which aims at integrating both theory and practice in education. Theoretical lectures are combined with case studies and practical examples.
