**Course content **

The course is an introduction to power system simulations and gives a basic understanding of different types of simulations and calculations and which studies different calculations/simulations can be used for. Topics included in the course are:

  • description of different types of steady state calculations and dynamic simulations such as loadflow calculations, short circuit calculations and dynamic simulations for studies of loadflow and dynamic events in power systems.

  • introduction to different calculation- and simulation programs and a review of typical applications/studies for the different programs, and how the results from the studies can be used to dimension the power system and its components.

  • presentation and visualization of the results from calculations and simulations.

Examples of implementations will be given in DigSILENT PowerFactory.

Examination

The examination will be assignments where the simulations/calculations covered in the course are implemented in Power Factory.

The course is at advanced level and is intended to introduce power system simulations/calculations using implementations in PowerFactory. To get the most out of the course, a basic knowledge of power system operation including load flow and fault cases is recommended, typically corresponding to a bachelor in electric power engineering or work at a grid company/producer.

Industry and academy

This course has been developed in collaboration with industry partners within the framework of one of our educational projects. The project aims to provide courses at advanced level to a mix of professionals and students to strengthen the Swedish industry's competitiveness.

We apply validation of work experience to see if you have knowledge that corresponds to the entry requirements for the course. Do not forget to attach your merits if you are applying based on work experience, the form is found here.
