Connect to HV-DESKTOP via Windows App
Below you will find instructions on how to connect to HV-DESKTOP using the Windows App, for both Windows and Mac.
Windows:
Download and install:
- If you are using a private computer:
Open the Microsoft Store and search for Windows App. Click Download (or Install). - If you are using a computer belonging to Högskolan Väst (HV computer):
Open the Company Portal and install the Windows App from there.
Start the app and log in
- Launch the Windows App from the Start menu.
- The welcome screen appears:
Welcome to Windows App. - Click on Go to devices
(Note: Do not use “Add a remote PC” – that is for manually connecting to individual computers.) - Log in with your HV account:
- Username:
- Staff: username@hv.se
- Student: username@student.hv.se (e.g. buba0001@student.hv.se) - Password: Your usual HV password.
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA): You will be asked to complete an MFA sign-in. Follow the instructions in your authenticator app. Sign in with MFA
Use HV-DESKTOP
- After logging in, your HV-desktop virtual computer will automatically appear under workspaces. Double-click it to launch it.
Mac:
Download and install
- Open the App Store on your Mac.
- Search for Windows App. The publisher should be Microsoft Corporation.
- Click Get to install the app.
Start the app and log in
- Launch the Windows App.
- After staring click on Devices. Then click on + up to the right and choose Add Work or School account.
- Log in with your HV account:
Username:
Staff:username@hv.se
Student:username@student.hv.se (e.g. buba0001@student.hv.se)
Password: Your usual HV password. - Multi-factor authentication (MFA): Complete the MFA login as instructed.

Use HV-DESKTOP
- When the login is complete, the “HV-desktop” icon will appear under workspaces. Double-click it to start.
