The course aims at developing language proficiency and comprehension as well as the ability to analyse language structure and the position of English as a global language.
Throughout the course, students are given the opportunity to practice oral proficiency and written composition. Essays are also discussed in group forums for the purpose of further developing language skills. In addition, students get practice in linguistic analysis through the study of grammar, phonetics and phonology.
The course is given primarily online, with an asynchronous set-up without scheduled meetings, with the exception of one invigilated exam. It is possible to apply to take the exam at other university or learning centre. For more information on taking exams off campus, click here.
The course can be combined with other courses at the basic, intermediate and advanced level in English at University West, for a Bachelor's degree or as part of a teacher's qualification or similar.
