Third-cycle students doing research in production engineering are members of the research team in Production Technology West at University West. The team works together with regional experts in the field of industrial engineering at the Centre for Production Technology, where there is a state-of-the-art research lab.

Research in production engineering deals with various processes of production in industrial engineering, and most of the projects have the overarching goal of reducing our environmental footprint. Research is focused on thermal spraying, welding, and cutting processes. It also deals with creating flexibility in the automation systems.
The subject area is outlined in the General Syllabus for Studies in Production Technology. The syllabus also lays out the program's aims and objectives, entry requirements, content and structure.

SMART INDUSTRY RESEARCH SCHOOL

A collaboration between five universities - University West, University of Skövde, Jönköping University, Halmstad University, Mid Sweden University - and the KK Foundation have created the idea for a business research school for professionals in industrial development with Smart Industry as the focus area. The purpose is to offer courses that meet the industry's need for excellence and which strengthen the competitiveness of the participating companies. Five areas:
  • Smart / durable materials and manufacturing methods
  • Smart products and processes
  • Smart production technology for flexible / agile-changeable production systems
  • Smart working methods for fast / efficient product realization / industrialization
  • Effective quality / maintenance / productivity development towards smart production

The start is planned for 2021. More about Smart Industry Research School

SiCoMaP research School

Externally employed doctoral students at the Sicomap research school have conducted their research in close collaboration with manufacturing companies during their doctoral studies at University West. Eleven companies have worked with 20 doctoral students during the 2012–2021 period. The overall purpose of the graduate school was to train internationally competitive doctors who can directly bring research results into the Swedish manufacturing industry and thus raise the level of competence in companies. Take part in results and reflections on Sicomap.
