In 2007 the financial markets were flooded with liquidity. Money was cheap, new securitized products were being continually issued and the world looked fine. It is amazing, how thing can change in the space of a year. By 2008, the spectre of inflation on a global scale, commodity and food prices increased at staggering rates, the banking system has significantly weakened, the financial markets run short of liquidity, stock prices declined sharply, and firms across the world in serious difficulty. Of course, reading this course will not stop these things from happening but it will help to understand the most appropriate way to guide you through the dangerous period ahead. The course covers the three analytical pillars in finance: optimization over time, asset valuation, and risk management (including portfolio theory). It is suited for students of economics, law, and mathematics and for business executives seeking a solid understanding and overview of the entire filed in finance
