University West hosts prestigious research conference in informatics
15 Feb 2024
An important part of disseminating and sharing research for a university is to organize research conferences where researchers and business representatives meet within a specific subject. University West will therefore host the international informatics conference DESRIST2024 on June 3-5, when around 100 participants from all over the world are expected to attend on site in Trollhättan.
- It is a very well-established conference in informatics. The conference is usually held in the USA every two years, and in another country every two years. So being able to arrange this large conference at University West in Trollhättan, Sweden, is a real trophy for the university and the city, says Amir Haj-Bolouri, Associate Professor in informatics at University West and responsible for the conference together with Matti Rossi from Aalto University in Finland.
The conference is mainly aimed at researchers in informatics but also industry who work at the interface between new innovative information technology, work and design. The theme for this year's edition of the International Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology (DESRIST) is Design Science Research for a Resilient Future.
The world has undergone a rapid development of technological innovation in recent decades. The consensus is that our current way of living and interacting with people, organizations and society is strongly influenced by the consequences of digital technology.
- The theme of this year's conference is therefore about how knowledge development and innovative digital technology can help us develop abilities and skills to create a resilient future. The conference creates an opportunity for researchers to discuss the issues on an international level together with representatives from industry, says Amir Haj-Bolouri.
Four keynotes
Four keynote speakers are booked and there are two from academia: Sandeep Purao, Professor of Computer Information Systems, Bentley University, USA and Mikael Wiberg, Professor of Informatics, Umeå University, Sweden. There are also two keynote speakers from the industry and they are Freddy Lund and Christian Döbeln from Tenstar Simulations.
- The conference is important to signal our research profile and capacity to host conferences of this caliber. Personally, it feels extra good to be responsible as I have been at the university since 2006. Then I started my bachelor's degree and have since made my journey up to the current associate professor in informatics. It's my 10th anniversary at DESRIST which feels extra good, concludes Amir Haj-Bolouri.
Registration opens on March 1.
