Philosphy of Science and Research Ethics, 5 hp
The course is primarily aimed at students in the first year of their doctoral study but may also have participants from later parts of the doctoral program. During the course we bring up questions about; what it means to be a doctoral student, the relationship between student and supervisor, writing a thesis and presenting research. Further, the course provides information from the library on various services and systems. We also provide an overview of the relevant parts of national and local guidelines and regulations.
Moreover, the course introduces theories of knowledge and philosophy with a focus on the choice of methods for the design of scientific studies. The relevance to the student's own research and the difference between different research fields are focused in exercises and seminars. An introduction to ethics, is given with reflections on ethical implications both in the general scientific research and in various types of projects.
