Organization

Staff member at Division of Urban Planning and Development. Conducts research in social sciences, political science, other social sciences, peace and conflict research.

I am a senior lecturer in Political Science and Co-Director of the Masters Programme in Work-Integrated Political Studies. My research interests are related to "security politics". I am particularly interested in the forces that shape the interconnections between public and private security, transnational defence collaborations, foreign and security policy, and the conventional arms trade. I am currently co-authoring a book on drone militarisation in Africa, which Springer Nature will publish.

Over the past decade, I have also regularly engaged in public talks, published popular science articles, and provided media commentary on international affairs, ranging from topics such as the Ukraine-Russia War, US-China relations, emerging powers in the so-called "Global South", international law, and the security politics of environmental degradation.

My teaching and supervision profile includes but is not limited to, postgraduate and undergraduate courses and topics in Global Political Economy, Security Studies, Foreign Policy Analysis, Development Studies, and Work-Integrated Political Studies. I hold a PhD in Peace and Development Research from the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg, and an MA and BA in International Relations from the University of Stellenbosch.
