AMFat - Additive Manufacturing – fatigue life calculation
The project aims to employ a “Gränsgångare” (from GKN to UW) to improve understanding on fatigue behaviour of additively manufactured material with a long-term view to be able to predict fatigue life of AM parts.
Technology roadmap/plan connection:
AM parts is one of the most important strategic areas for GKN, as a new technology that improves sustainability. One of the most challenging aspect today is understanding the fatigue behaviour of AM parts.
Goals:
The project aims to employ a “Gränsgångare” (from GKN to UW) to improve understanding on fatigue behaviour of additively manufactured material with a long-term view to be able to predict fatigue life of AM parts. It will focus on fracture mechanics behaviour on physically short cracks and effect of surface on fatigue life. This project is seen as a base for future in-depth projects within the NFFP umbrella.
Results:
Enhanced knowledge on state-of-the-art in the area of AM fatigue – in Sweden and internationally. Connect and gather information from ongoing PODFAM and CAM2 projects and extend these results towards lifing. The project will strengthen the collaboration between University West-GKN in the area of AM research.
