The project refers in the constellation Högskolan Väst, Automotive Components Floby AB and Hydro Extruded Solutions AB to study the effect of ultrasonic vibration assisted processing of advanced aluminum alloys, silicon, lithium and scandium alloys. This project will investigate material’s machinability, tool wear, chip formation and material properties of the machined surface of the component. The study will be done in combination with tool cooling using liquid nitrogen under high pressure. Combining the two methods, ultrasound and cryogenic cooling, machining operations will significantly be affected. The intention is to raise the TRL level from 3 to 4. After this feasibility study project, intention is to invite additional companies and research institutions to form an expanded research project on ultrasonic-assisted processing with cryogenic cooling.
