The training Parenting in the preschool is a collaborative effort between the preschool, social services and the police, who together lead parent meetings at the preschool. The meetings are given on six occasions and each occasion is 1.5 hours where subjects dealing with Swedish laws, rights/obligations, parenting and children's healthy development are touched upon. An interpreter is available as support. Through dialogue, information and increased knowledge, the training aims to contribute to parents experiencing increased trust in community-supporting bodies, such as school, police and social services, as well as increased empowerment and self-confidence as parents. Basically, the training acts as an early crime prevention effort where the goal is to reduce the recruitment of children and young people through increased trust and empowerment on the part of parents.

Right now, researchers from Högskolan Väst are conducting a project with the goal of understanding parents' perceived conditions and needs, as well as evaluating the education Parenting in preschool.

The project consists of two parts:
Part 1 – we interview parents who live in socially vulnerable areas with children of preschool age based on their parenting, trust in authorities and need for support.

Part 2 – evaluation of the intervention through questionnaires and interviews with participating parents.

The work has started in January 2024 and the evaluation/report is planned to be ready in December 2025.

Current

Interviews included in Part 1 of the project have now been completed and analysis work is ongoing.

Currently, parents are being recruited for future training and participation in research within Part 2 of the project.
