Forskningsområde

Jag är professor i materialteknik och forskar om titanlegeringar som används i bland annat flygmotorer och rymdraketer. Titanlegeringar är lätta och starka, viktiga kriterier vid utveckling av nya motorer eftersom minskad vikt spar bränsle. Mitt fokus är att utveckla titanlegeringar med nya sammansättningar och förbättrade egenskaper samt att förstå de begränsningar som finns i de legeringar som redan används.

I flyg- och rymdindustrin utvecklas så kallad additiv tillverkning, där man "skriver ut" tredimensionella geometrier och komponenter med hjälp av en 3D-skrivare. I denna teknologiutveckling finns utmaningar som jag coh mina forskarkollegor världen runt brottas med. Hur blir materialegenskaperna när man bygger flera lager på varandra? Hur varierar egenskaperna, och varför? Processerna måste i slutändan vara tillförlitliga för att flygplanet ska vara säkert.
